- Each Registrant Must Provide Identity and Contact Details for Registering the domain.
- These Identity and Contact Details is known as the DATA.
- ICANN maintain timely, unrestricted and public access to accurate and complete WHOIS information, subject to applicable laws.
- Registrars and Registries provide public access to data on registered domain names.
- Anyone can use the WHOIS protocol to search their databases and identify the domain name registrant.
- Every Registrar needs ICANN Accreditation.
- Registries are under contract with ICANN to operate generic top level domain.
WHOIS LOOKUP?
- Lookup is used to find the details of the domain.
- Usefull for the person who wants to register for the domain name.
- By searching the domain name with extension:
- It sends domain details to the gTLD server.
- Then gTLD server sends the information to the domain server for the database of the server.
- Then domain server gives the information of the registrant.
- Open the ICANN WHOIS website.
- Enter details Domain Name in the lookup search bar.
- It gives information of the registrant and registrar and expiring date.
- Below are the details of the registrar and status of the domain
