Primary vs Secondary Colors

Primary Colors:

  • These are the colors used for making set of other colors.
  • These are colors that cannot be created through  mixing of other colors.

Secondary Colors:

  • These are the colors obtained by mixing the any two primary colors.
There are several types of primary color:

Light (RGB):

  • Primary colors are Red, Green and Blue.
  • These Primary colors are used in the light emitting devices or light ray tubes.
  • These are the best primary colors of Human Eye.
  • Formation of Secondary colors:
Red  +  Green  =  Yellow
Red  +  Blue    =  Magenta
BlueGreen  =  Cyan

Printing (CMY):

  • Primary colors are Cyan, Magenta, Yellow.
  • For printing purpose we use this colors. 
  • Formation of Secondary colors:
Cyan     +  Magenta  Blue
Yellow   +  Magenta  =  Red
 Cyan    +  Yellow     =  Green

Regular Colors (RYB):

  • Primary colors are Red, Yellow, Blue.
  • These are regular colors that we use.
  • Regular primary colors are used by artists for  painting.
  • Formation of Secondary colors:
Red  +  Yellow  =  Orange
Red  +  Blue      =  Purple
Blue +  Yellow  =  Green
