SMPS stands for Switch Mode Power Supply
Working of the SMPS :
- SMPS converts the AC current to DC current.
- As mother board circuits needs less power, SMPS distributes the power to all components according to the requirement.
Block Diagram of SMPS:
- Input Rectifier and Filter:
Rectifies the AC current to DC current.
- High Frequency Switch:
Converts DC signal into pulsating DC wave.
- Transformer:
Steps down the voltage to required level.
- Output Rectifier and Filter:
Filters the DC signal to maintain the constant output(i.e., Pulsating DC to DC Signal)
- Feed Back Circuit:
Helps to maintain the desired output.
CPU PIN:
This 4+4 pin, supplies power to the CPU on the mother board.
Motherboard PIN:
This a 24 pin connector, used to supply power to the mother board.
SATA PIN:
This is a 6 pin connector, used to supply power to the SATA pin hard disk.
Floppy PIN:
This is old type of connector, this pin is no more available with latest SMPS.
Used to supply power to the Floppy.
PCIE PIN:
Provides power to the high range graphic cards which needs high power.
PERIPHERAL PIN:
Provides power to the peripherals on the motherboard like FANS, CD Drive, Hard Disk.
