Current:
- Current is nothing but flow of electric charge.
- Charge consists of electrons, which is used to power the device.
Current is of Two Types
- Alternate Current
- Direct Current
Alternate Current:
- In Alternate Current electrons flows in Bi-Directional.
- Alternate Current changes the direction for every few seconds
- Alternate Current is sinusoidal wave.
- AC current is invented by Nikola Tesla.
- Alternate Current is used in houses, industries.
Generation of Alternate Current:
- Alternate Current is produced by rotating the coil placed in between the magnet.
- As Coil rotates, the power is generated or passed through slips rings to load.
- Coil is rotated by using different fuels, each fuel as its own name.
- Water (Hydro Power)
- Coal (Thermal Power)
- Oil (Fossil Fuel Power)
- Gas
- Air(Wind Power)
- Generators
Direct Current:
- In Direct Current electrons flow in single directional.
- Direct Current maintains constant electric charge.
- Direct Current is invented by Thomas Edison.
- Direct current are used in small appliances (i.e, Torch Lights, Toys, Remote) and Computers.
Generation of Direct Current:
- Direct Current is generated by Batteries or AC to DC converters.
Some Other Differences:
| Alternate Current | Direct Current | |
|---|---|---|
| Energy Carrying | Transfer to longer distances and provides more power. | Direct cannot travel long distances. |
| Frequency | 50 Hz or 60 Hz | Zero |
| Flow of Electrons | Electrons flow in both directions. | Electrons move steadily in one direction or Forward. |
| Cause of Current Flow | Rotating Magnets Along Wire |
Steady Magnetism |
| Power Factor | Lies Between 0 or 1 | Always 1 |
| Types | Sinusoidal, Square, Trapezoidal and Triangular | Pure and Pulsating |
