Router

  • It is used to connect to different networks.
  • It is used to make connection between the WAN and LAN.
  • Uses the IP Address and MAC Address to pass the packets.

ROUTER WORKING :

  • Casually the IP of organisation is different from the ISP IP.
  • To communicate between two branches we use the router.
  • Basically router checks the packets IP Address,
    •  If it is there in routing table it sends to that network.
    • If not sends to the public network.

ROUTER TYPES:

NETWORK ROUTERS:

  • Only it works as the router.
  • Used in higher organisation for better networking.
  • Better for routing the multiple networks.
  • Provides alternate network, with out any physical change.
  • Below is the image of the router.
  • Network Topology of the router

ACCESS POINT:

  • Access Point is used to generate the Wired Network as Wireless Local Network (WLAN).
  • These for used in higher organisation to provide WiFi for the wireless devices.

ROUTER ALL IN ONE:

  • It contains the functionality of the switch, routing and Access Point.
  • Basically it contains the  2 to 8 LAN ports for distribution of data(Act as a switch ports).
  • Inbuilt antenna for producing the WiFi(Acts as Access Point).
  • It contains single WAN port for connecting to WAN network.
  • We can make switch ports as router ports to connect to the other router by this port.
